Founder of Kala Creative Collective, Producer
Rachel Vanessa Mallett
I am a vibrant visual artist with passion for photography and videography. I run my media production company Kala Creative Collective from Cape Town with capabilities of working remotely too. I pride myself on having a broad range of skills that can take a project from conception to distribution, as I am able to produce, direct, capture and edit.
Currently, I am completing my masters degree in Documentary Arts at The University of Cape Town where I am creating an auto-ethnographic film about my interracial and cross cultural family.
Through my studying at UCT, I have also developed skills in creative writing, anthropology and media production. During the first year of my studies here I created a short documentary called Illustrating Identity which discusses how people of the LGBT+ community express their identity through fashion.

I have many years experience behind the camera from filming The Kooks at Bestival, to filming news inserts for BBC. This started through opportunities presented by Southampton Solent University where I studied BA Television and Video Production. My natural leadership qualities resulted in being elected for Series Producer for TV Studio module, where I lead a team to create a 7 part game show series with local colleges. After graduating, I applied the skills that I learned through travel/lifestyle/wildlife photography and videography, as I explored different countries on my own. This eventually landed me in South Africa where I continue to learn about other cultures as well as growing internally.
Recently, I have ventured into digital design which allows me to create content for social media, marketing & advertisements as well as artworks. This sector is growing vastly as we attempt to keep up with the ever expanding tech revolution.
